This is a bug which manifests itself in plugin versions up to v0.5.5. Version v0.6 will have an more profound fix for this issue. But you might wonder what causes this peculiar message. Well, I can tell you...it took us a while to figure it out, but here we go.
When uploading a photo to flickr, flickr automatically resizes the photo into various formats. We have for instance the square-format, which the plugin uses to display photo's in the article. Next to the square format flickr provides the thumbnail, small, medium, large format and, for pro accounts, the original aswell.
That sounds quite good, doesn't it? But what does this all have to do with this "photo currently not available" message you're getting. Well, when uploading a photo which has smaller dimensions that for instance the medium and large format, these photo formats will not be generated by flickr and upon requesting them will result in ... here we have it ... the "Photo not available message". Now, I hear you thinking... it should be quite easy to check which versions are available. And it is...sort of…
v0.5.5 of the flickr slideshow plugin has a check on the various available formats and that fixes the issue for quite some cases. However, there is a wee little issue that we still have to fix. Requests for both accounts result in a list of available formats in an ascending order, closing with an item for the original format. A pro account enables us to access the original of a photo. A free account on the contrary, does not have that luxury. Instead flickr includes a link to the large format of the photo. And that while this photo might not even be available.
Work around
In most cases this error occurs while using the Triptracker slideshow plug-in as this slideshow preference is to be fed with the large format photo. Now, there are a few ways to work around this issue that works in most cases as the medium format is almost always available. So, here are your options:
